MEC Lehari and Department Successfully wraps up disinfection programme in Bojanala

Koster- Over the past couple of weeks, the Department of Community Safety and Transport led by MEC Sello Lehari has embarked on an intensive disinfection and fumigation programme at various taxi ranks and traffic offices across the Bojanala District. The weekly programme, which is also an opportunity to monitor compliance by taxi operators, commuters and the public will now be moving into other districts in the province after the final leg which took place in Kgetleng Municipality this week.

Addressing taxi operators as well as the community of Koster, MEC Lehari placed much emphasis on the significance of the programme.

“Every week we embark on a mission to go into various municipalities and provide them with much needed support to limit the spread of the Corona virus. The transport sector plays a fundamental role in the movement of our people and therefore it is important that we focus our efforts on taxi/bus ranks where generally there is an influx of people at any given time.

“Creating a safe and clean transportation environment for our people in order for the sector to thrive remains a top priority”, said Lehari.
The MEC was also satisfied with the general adherence to lockdown protocols by the community and encouraged them to continue leading by example.

“From my observation, people around Koster take safety precautions seriously I am impressed with the level of adherence because it is important that we all play our part to reduce the spread of the virus by maintaining a safe social distance, wearing a cloth mask, avoid gatherings as well as sanitise and or wash hands regularly”, added Lehari.

The visit to the municipality was welcomed gratefully, by amongst others the Mayor of Kgetleng, Cllr Amogelang Selaledi.

“We are grateful that today we have received a special visit from the department, this is an indication that we might be a small municipality but we are never forgotten, especially during this time when we are faced with a pandemic”, he said.

The campaign will now move to the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District starting with Ventersdorp, next Wednesday and is expected to continue rotating within the province until the end of the year 2020.
